The idea of setting aside one day of the year to honor Mothers was introduced by Julia Ward Howe to promote peace and cooperation throughout America following the loss of life and the destruction caused by the Civil War. In order to achieve this noble goal and set a day for celebration of mothers, Howe called on the country’s leaders to confirm an official Mother’s Day proclamation. This idea was embraced by many local towns, cities and states making Mother’s Day a tradition which has endured for over a century.

Roses have been a longstanding tradition for Mother’s Day symbolizing beauty, grace, and strength which all mothers embody. Surprising mom with beautiful roses is a common way to say “I love you”. Because your mom has made a lasting impression in your life, remember her with a rose or plant a rose in her honor to celebrate her throughout the entire year.

From all of us at Heirloom Roses, we wish the Mother’s in our lives and the Mother’s in your lives a beautiful Mother’s Day!
