This large Shrub has a delightful strong fragrance that varies between a soft, floral tea and almost pure lemon depending on weather conditions. According to David Austin, Charles Darwin’s blooms are some of the largest to be found in the English Roses. His flowers are very full and rounded opening to a shallow cup in a lovely shade of rich yellow similar to Old Gold. Occasionally, the 140+ petals have a lemony or sandy tint. We prefer to plant Charles Darwin in the front of a mixed bed so he can receive the attention he deserves.
