Compostable Packaging For Roses
Heirloom Roses is proud to introduce our new eco-friendly packaging — a step forward for your garden and the planet.

A Better Way to Grow
You care about what goes into your garden and what goes into the trash.
So do we.
At Heirloom Roses, we believe beauty should never come at the planet’s expense. That's why, after over a year of research and development, we’re proud to introduce our new compostable packaging—designed to nurture your roses and the earth.

The Problem: Too Much Plastic
Until now, elements of our shipping process depended on single-use plastics—specifically the pot, bag, and zip tie. With thousands of roses shipped each year, this added up to a significant environmental impact.

The Solution: Compostable Packaging That Works
We’ve created a new system that is both effective and environmentally responsible. Every rose now ships in:
Cardboard Pot: Replaces the traditional plastic pot while still keeping your rose protected during shipping. It can be composted or recycled.
Compostable Bag: Made from plant-based material that protects the root zone and retains moisture. Designed to break down naturally.
Compostable Zip Tie: Even the zip tie is made from biodegradable plant material and dyed with food-based coloring.
*zip ties that aren't pink should be thrown away.

Why It Matters
This change isn’t just about packaging—it’s about our shared responsibility to grow more consciously. When you choose Heirloom Roses, you’re not just planting a rose. You’re making a choice to support sustainability, reduce waste, and help protect the natural world for generations to come.
Estimated Plastic Saved From Landfills Per Year
Did You Know?
Every year, the world produces around 380 million tons of plastic — and nearly half of it is used just once before being tossed. These single-use items stick around for centuries, long after their moment of usefulness is over.

The average person in the U.S. goes through about 562 pounds of new plastic each year — and roughly half of that ends up as waste. That’s around 287 pounds of plastic tossed per person, every single year.
FAQs
While cardboard is a more sustainable choice than plastic, we don’t recommend planting the box. For best results, remove the rose from the packaging before planting. Then, recycle the cardboard to keep it out of landfills and give it a second life — it's a small step that makes a big difference for the planet!
Definitely. Cardboard breaks down naturally, unlike plastic which can take centuries to decompose.
Absolutely — the box is 100% recyclable and compostable if clean. Or, get creative and reuse it for crafts or storage!
We recommend planting within 2-3 days of arrival.
We're committed to reducing single-use plastic wherever we can. That’s why our roses come in eco-friendly packaging by default. But if you prefer a plastic pot, you can still add one in the cart page for $1 per rose.
