I bought this as a birthday present for my sister. She said it is growing and so beautiful. She loves it!!!

I planted Courageous 15-20 years ago against a wire fence in our “north 40” meaning it was far from the house and the garden hose. It didn’t get watered often and was pretty neglected. It still managed to put out a few small roses but never got over 2 ft high. I finally transplanted it into high quality soil and pampered it. Even though I moved it in July (the very worst time), it is mid-October and this rose is 3 ft tall, has beautiful glossy green leaves and has many fragrant red flowers. It truly is courageous!

I recently received a request to review the rose, Courageous. My Courageous rose from Heirloom Roses arrived healthy and happy and seemed to be growing after planting, but then I decided to move the rose to another area. I thought it would be okay to move since the rose had not been in the ground a year, reasoning that it was probably not well established. I moved the rose in early spring, following the Heirloom instructional video on replanting a rose, preparing my soil, etc., but, I’m sad to say, the rose didn’t pull through this past summer. I have four other roses I planted at the same time in the same bed that are doing well and thriving. I do think it is a beautiful rose and hope to order another one. Let me just add, I have ordered many, many roses from Heirloom Roses and have been very satisfied with the quality of roses I have received.

I bought this rose this spring (2023) and I had originally planted this him in my main flower bed which has overhead irrigation. But with our incredibly hot summer and 7 AM watering I thought it would dry quickly. Nope. He got black spot anyway. Totally my fault. So after getting advice from Heirloom Roses I put him in a large pot and treated him for black spot which quickly cleared up and left him potted until I could replant in a new bed in the fall. The repotting did not stop him and he kept growing, and blooming, despite this being his first year.. And then some Japanese Beetles moved in and started munching on him and my other roses. Within days we was almost nibbled down to the ground so I carefully treated him with a spray and the damage was halted and he quickly replaced all the foliage he had lost. In September. I was finally able to get him in the ground in his new bed and he is doing great! I was so taken with this rose being a tribute to the RAF and other military that fought in WWII and he has so lived up to his name. I look forward to him really taking off next year. He is an incredibly tough rose.
