Luv the beautiful form. In not so hot/humid climates? (Fremont, CA), it seems to have a charming green center when fully open (not sure why no other review mentions this?). It unfortunately has minimal fragrance in my seriously alkaline clay soil (Fremont was formerly ocean bed), but that is par for the course, I've only found a bare handful of roses that have scent here.
Despite NOT being recommended for my Zone 10 (?why?), it is super vigorous with canes up to 7+ feet (need staking) in my sunny garden.
Perhaps Fremont has it's own microclime? Dee-lish, which is also NOT recommended for zone 10, is a powerhouse in my garden, having even stronger canes up to 8' not needing staking and has a moderate delicious scent (due to alkaline soil, the scent is weirdly initially not too pleasant anise, but matures to a wonderful slightly fruity old rose fragrance once blooms open fully).
I planted this rose at the beginning of the summer here outside Philadelphia and Iām so impressed with its growth! I have a white stucco colonial that faces southeast with zero shade, so my front beds get A LOT of sun and have to endure the heat reflected off the house. This rose LOVES it, and can even tolerate some drought, Iāve found. It has been throwing off new growth constantly throughout this summer, even during dry spells. I love the color and the fragrance is amazing! I was expecting only to get a few blooms this first year, but Iāve gotten about 10 3ā-5ā flowers along with the prolific growth. The only downside is that the blooms shatter easily, but honestly, thatās not enough to negate all the good things about this rose.
I planted three Savannah rose bushes two years ago. They bloomed the first year but this year they are covered in blooms! Very little disease issues even in our hot humid climate (Zone 8b, South Carolina). The blooms are beautiful and the fragrance is captivating. Absolutely love having these in my garden.
