I planted my Zephrine Drouhin in the rotted out stump of a black walnut tree with amended soil in the middle. I thought it might not survive since most things cannot grow in soil under those because of the plant toxins the tree exudes. It is now2 years old and is blooming abundantly and sending out canes a plenty. I planted one of these years ago and the blooms were spectacular. This one is too. Wonderful fragrance and massive displays. I try to buy all my roses from Heirloom.
Zephirine is an absolute delight. She's at the bottom of my garden, visible from the kitchen window, and she's a great focal point. Zephirine is just the right size to climb a 6' fence and makes these long arching sprays of blooms in glorious bold pink. I'm really loving that color. She's a rebloomer, not a constant bloomer. Zephirine surprised me by keeping most of her leaves through the winter (zone 7). And thornless! I would grow this one again.
This is year 2, planted in partial sun in zone 7a. Just gorgeous saturated color and delicious fragrance.
