Named for the 19th century novel by Thomas Hardy. Blessed with magnificent fragrance, 'Jude the Obscure' 4" blooms (petals 40+) are large, cupped, old-fashioned, and of the highest quality and beauty. A lovely shade of rich, soft apricot, the outer petals of the fully double blooms may show a blush of pale yellow. Very free flowering, the blooms are produced on a strong, vigorous, well-shaped bush with mid-green foliage. It received the Corona Regina Teodelinda Perfume Award in Monza, Italy. Mr. Austin says "'Jude the Obscure' produces some of the most superb blooms you have ever seen" with the added benefit of its lovely, strong and unusual fragrance of lemon/myrrh and peach. Makes a good cut flower.

Slow growing but lovely

Pictured here in its 3rd summer, after two transplants across the country. I loved this rose so much we dug it up when we sold our house and transported it across two time zones. Thrived in the desert, and thriving in the southeast. (Both zone 8a) Lovely seashell colored flowers which can pull more pink or yellow depending on how the shrub is feeling that week.

Top notch rose

I’ve had Jude for 7 years and he is easily my favorite! Continuous bloomer, smells amazing, grows like crazy.

Most incredible fragrance

I purchased Jude the Obscure in the 1990's from Heirloom Rose, the previous owners had several Jude the Obscure roses when my husband and I walked by the roses we fell in love with the fragrance. Its sad that you no longer have them. I am looking forward to coming to see your place, I saw you on OPB today.

Exceptional!

I bought 2 “Jude’s” about 25 years ago. They have performed beyond my expectations every year! Even this year with horrible heat and a soggy Spring, they just keep me smiling!
They need very little attention and are disease free.
