Awesome Flowers, Fragrance & Thorns

I would have given this rose 5 stars if it were not for the thorns, The blooms are beautifully colored and fragrant. The bush is huge so you get a lot of flowers. As another reviewer emphasized, the thorns are vicious. I am usually pretty tolerant of thorny roses however I would describe the thorns on this bush as being like hypodermic needles! You might want to use eye protection when gardening around this plant.

It's still alive

I just ordered 5 of these as climbing Rose's on a chain link fence. It will get full sun for 4 hours later in the day.
So far they have been in the ground 2 weeks. I do see new leaves growing out on them. I hope it doesn't take years to get blooms. I realize maybe not this year...hoping for next year.

Not THAT much shade

I think the shade I planted this in is too deep along a north facing wall. It’s growing and stretching for the light but no blooms yet in year 2. I think I’ll move it next year and then hopefully it’ll be happier.

Amazing!

I planted alchemist last year. In its first season it grew about three feet, but no blooms of course. I have it in a six foot oblisk, and it is now over the top. It gave me well over a dozen big, gorgeous, fragrant blooms this June. I'm in zone 4b, so I mulched it with aged straw and wrapped it well, and had zero die back. Alchemist is just an amazing rose!
