Fell in Love with my April Love!

The name got me to buy it the first time. My Dad's birthday was in April, so is my grandson's, who was named after my Dad. My great grandson was to be also born in April. So April Love just seemed appropriate for me. But the second time I bought it was for the amazing fragrance and abundance of blooms. Both bushes are growing so well for me in zone 6b even after winter.

Amazing this year

I think I've had this one for 3-4 years. The plant wasn't that impressive at first, one or two really tall canes with flowers at the top. Now its very full, the flowers are just gorgeous. The photo below is what passers by see on the sidewalk.

My favorite rose

I bought it about 3 years ago. It bloomed in the hot Texas summer and it smelled wonderfully.

Poor growth. Small leaves. Ton of thorns.

I have been very disappointed with this rose. I bought it based on the mostly good reviews here and I wish someone had written a better description of its growth and thorn burden compared to the average rose on the website. For months, the rose didn’t grow beyond a foot in spite of full Sun, adequate water and excellent fertilizer application. It would put out only tiny leaves and the amount of thorns is disproportionately large. I highly recommend against buying this rose. If I could return it to heirloom roses and get my money back, I’d do it. But it’s been a while since I bought the rose and I don’t think they’d do that.

Great plant

This rose is really beautiful and healthy. I planted about six month. It is good in Houston very heated weather. Bloom all the time. It is my favorite rose in my garden all of forty roses I have.
