Long lasting, quick growing, she had 10 bloom within a month! The blooms last 5+ days, they are large and stunning. Out of my 35 roses, shes probably my new favorite!
I planted three Joan Fontaines in an area that receives eight hours of sun. I water each weekly from a bucket, and apply fish fertilizer monthly. We are zone 5b, central Nebraska. Since they began blooming, it has been nonstop. The Japanese beetles have left them alone. The blooms continue to get a bit larger each time. So far not much fragrance but will give it time. I’m delighted with how beautiful the blooms look on the healthy green shrub. Today the stems were longer and I clipped a few for a vase. On a cloudy day the pale peachy pink centers last longer. A real beauty.
I was privileged to know Joan. I worked with her in Summer Stock in Fayetteville NY.when I was 16 and we remained friends to the end. We visited Joan at her home in Carmel in 2009 and she had an amazing rose garden on a slight hill on the right side of her home. Joan said, " You know the one rose I have trouble growing here is The Joan Fontaine Rose ", go figure. I miss Joan.
I bought this rose last year (2023) after seeing some pics posted in a rose group. I received a nice plant and planted in a prime location. It did well in 2023 and I was pleased. In 2024 it started blooming in the spring. AND NEVER STOPPED!!!!!! Since it started it has had AT LEAST 1-2 blooms on it at all times in addition to the regular flushes of blooms. This is an incredible rose and I can't wait to see what happens the third year! Also disease resistant (primarily blackspot in my area). Southern TN, zone 8a.
