Zone 6 after 9 months.

Produced blooms last autumn - shortly after planting. Survived the winter (albeit a mild one). Began the spring strongly with about 5 blooms and had about 4 more when the first flush was deadheaded. Some early leaves have damage from rose slugs - treated with neem oil and new leaves look clean. All in all, I am pleased at this early stage. If it performs like my Therese Bugnet (from Hierloom too), it's second and third years (2025 and 2026) will test its merit.

A Gem Among Gems

Bolero is just a beautiful gem! I have two in my tiny cottage garden. Not only is it a lovely soft white, but the fragrance is a wonderful old fashion rose. It engulfs the essence of the true rose fragrance. I have about thirty roses and Bolero is one of my top favorites.

Fast out of the gates

2 x 2 hole, manure, good garden soil and some worm casings. Zone 6. I planted 5 roses around an old tree stump in mid April 2023. All did well, but the Bolero was the first to show life and and never stopped. A surprising number of blooms in the first year. Heavy spring rain, summer heat, didn't bother it. All its leaves looked healthy until freezing nights right before Thanksgiving. Looking forward to next year.

I am thoroughly pleased after just 6 weeks.

The plant arrived on time and in excellent, bare-root condition. I planted it the next day in a hole with good drainage and soil augmented with compost. I left for a five week trip and returned to find the plant fully leafed-out and presenting two flower buds both of which opened within the next week and a half. The website's photograph accurately depicts the flowers.

So there you have it. I too have observed hearty performance as reported in other reviews. I'll add that there has been no sign of black spot or other disease even though there has been a lot of rain and high temperatures. I don't plan to fertilize this year to discourage new growth and thereby reduce the risk of winter damage.

I fully expect strong performance next year. I have a four year old Therese Bugnet from Heirloom and it is a champion performer with the traits of a rugosa ancestry. It was my first purchase from Heirloom - Bolero was my second. This has been my experience, I would purchase additional plants from Heirloom without reservation.

A Delicate, Profuse Bloomer with The PERFECT Perfume, Like an Angel in a Pot! Bolero is a MUST-HA...

WOW, was I ever surprised at how deeply I have fallen in love with this rose! I am going for an Alice-in-Wonderland red and white rose theme for my front garden, so I ordered Bolero along with a bunch of other fragrant red and white roses and didn't think much of her individually from the photos and description on the website. Fast-forward about seven days after I stuck her in a pot in partial shade, and she was COVERED in the most beautiful, soft, peach-centered blossoms I had ever seen, each one delicately nodding down towards the ground like a little ballet dancer in Swan Lake. The fragrance brought back memories of this fabulous Tom Ford perfume that was all the rage in the early 2000s, and I was just swept away by the delicate beauty of this rose. Months later, she is still covered in flowers every single day and is just stunning to look at. And oh, MY, that scent! Her only downfall is that she is too delicate for indoor life, and does not last very long in a vase. But float her in a small bowl next to your bedside, and she will give you the sweetest dreams before she expires. This is one to gift to your Mom, your sister, your best friend, and anyone else who deserves a little slice of heaven every morning, whether out in the garden or in a pot on the terrace. Bolero is just a STUNNING rose!
