Long John Silver is a gorgeous beast. It took off in the second year with loads of gorgeous fat blooms. It is a bit wild, so it needs a lot of attention to keep it under control. It climbed up nearly 10ft and the lower branches are almost 2 inches thick already. It has intense, thick thorns and the fragrance is lovely. This rose is a show stopper.

I plant this rose in 5 month ago. Now it have 3.5m height. I plant it in shade area, still no blooms, but I expect for it. I plant it for leaves. It grow on bad soil in zone 10b. No problem with any black spots or etc.

My Long John arrived in great condition, and I had high hopes for it however, it didn't make it through the Montana winter. I will be trying again as I learn from my mistakes

All of the Canadian Explorer roses are wonderfully hardy and vigorous for me here in Colorado. I purchased 3 Long John Silver only to be very disappointed by all of them. They have proven not vigorous or adequately hardy for my zone 4b. The blooms also tend to ball.
