TREND ALERT! There are so many reasons to love this rose - her fragrance, the large, apricot blooms, and how she keeps her color without fading are just a few! Sunbelt® South Africa® was the recipient of the Gold Standard Award in 2009 and the Glasgow Gold Medal in 2006. She is simply dripping with large, rich, amber-colored, double blossoms that are non-fading and can be seen from across the garden. Her lush, romantic blooms of moderate fragrance are simply delightful. Sunbelt® South Africa® has dark green foliage, and the bush is upright and maturing between 4' - 5' tall.

A priceless gift

My coworkers gifted me 2 rose bushes after my moms passing because they know I loved to garden and I am South African. I planted both last year and they were both packed well and carefully with no broken stems ,small and young. After I planted them , I was very surprised that they had multiple flower blooms. I don’t have much experience growing roses and is so easy to grow. I’m excited to see the show they will give me this year. I’m in zone 5 and they both made it through the winter.

Healthiest, Lushes Rose

I own about 2 dozen roses at this point, some are antiques (Blush Noisette, M. Tillier, La Reine, and more) but South Africa is by far the healthiest, most vibrant bush of them all! I live in Zone 9a and the foliage is pristine even in midsummer when fungus is among us. The flowers are beautifully cupped and consistent. I didn't prune it this year and the new growth is textbook perfect.

The closest I could get to finding a rose with an African name.

Just received 2 weeks ago and the rose is leafing out nicely. We have more than 100 roses and all with stakes with their names, and I chose this rose because of it's name. We have a lot of celebrity roses (Barbra Streisand, Elizabeth Taylor, Neil Diamond, Dick Clark, Dolly Parton, Marilyn Monroe, Henry Fonda, etc.) but after searching everywhere I could not find a single rose that was named for an African American person. Isn't that sad? We have African American friends that visit and enjoy our gardens. I wish that Heirloom would be inclusive enough to name a rose for at least one of the many African Americans who have significant prominence in achievement in this world. Martin Luther King, Oprah Winfrey, Barack Obama, Stevie Wonder....there are endless possibilities. I will be first in line to buy those roses.

Beautiful Surprise

Received the rose defoliated and safely shipped to my Zone 8b (Myrtle Beach) and potted it about a week later. I was a little worried, not because it didn’t look healthy, but because it didn’t grow anything but leaves. I do tend to hold my roses to the standard of Earth Angel, which is probably not a great idea, because she bloomed right after I potted her lol. Just figured South Africa was going to settle in and do her thing next year. Well, I think she works night shift, because no joke, I woke up one day to about 10 buds! This was early September, and since then she’s been my spicy show-off, and her yellow-orange petals seem to actually glow. Very pleased with this rose, and I am now inspired to make a separate rose garden with some brighter colors. Highly recommend this rose, and Heirloom has once again done what they do best and obviously love.
