Special Color Combination and Excellent Fragrance - Worth the Wait!

I waited a while for Ruth Clements to be available for purchase, and it took a few years for her to bloom in my shady garden. The first bloom was just light pink and I wondered if I had the wrong plant, but all of the blooms after that have been a delightful two-tone of soft golden yellow and light pink. Many other two-tone roses with yellow and pink just end up just looking peachy orange, but this one stays distinctly yellow and pink. The fragrance is also excellent - a sweet damask rose scent. It has about average susceptibility to fungal diseases in my garden, and perhaps below average speed of growth, but the unique color combination and fragrance make it well worth the wait!

Surprised!

I'm in zone 6b. I ordered a lot of roses to start a rose garden in my backyard this spring, most were David Austin's. All were planted in late March and almost all of my roses are small with weak canes. Many have blooms and some have produced flowers (most smaller than expected). Of the 30+ different roses I purchased this one, Golden Celebration, and St. Swithun are huge, healthy, and full of flowers after only being in the ground for 2 1/2 months. This rose has the most buds/flowers of all of them, and they are on the small side, but gorgeous! The flowers on mine don't have any scent as of now. I'm told that it takes 3 years for a rose bush to reach full potential so I am anxiously awaiting seeing this one next year. If you are on the fence on this one, don't be - it's perfect!

Took a Risk

And it paid off. I had been looking at this rose for awhile. I wanted something that wasn't 'viral' in popularity. I love Kordes and DA but I wanted something different. The colors are gorgeous. This did come to me after it was hanging out in shipping for awhile so I was afraid it would fail to thrive but after a few months it perked back up after cutting back a couple dead canes. I love the colors

I bought this rose because of how it looks in the picture. I planted it when it arrived last September, so it is now a year old. I really wanted to love this rose, however this one have one problem after another. First, I have to defoliate it because the leaves had turned rust color, then with heat it all crispy. It finally bounced back and budded but they never fully opened and it’s all white color. I contacted customer service to ask if I got the correct rose and was told that it is and to give the plant time to mature, then it should flower with correct color. Well so far, it flowered with light pink and haven’t seen the buds fully open yet. They keep turning brown around the edges probably due to heat. I am unhappy seeing it not living up to my expectation yet. Other roses, right away gives the correct flower and color. Not this one, so we’ll see next year.
