James Galway is the versatile Shrub or Climbing Rose you’ve dreamed of. David Austin describes him as "A superb large shrub with long, slightly arching, almost thorn-less growth". James Galway is a tough, disease-free rose that is excellent for the back of a mixed border and can also be grown as a Climber topping out around 12’. His flowers are 4" across and full with over 100 petals shading to pale pink at the edges. He is a continuous bloomer with a delicious, old rose fragrance. Give James Galway space and light and he will take off! Or keep him tidy and contained for an excellent, upright growing Shrub.

Blooms look like powder puffs

I planted 3 last fall and are doing very well. I am enamored by the blooms, delicate colors and the fact they have so many petals! I’m training them to climb an arbor. Still little but thriving!

My first David Austin

I purchased this rose last year, wanted to wait until it gave me something to write about. It was my first David Austin rose, and , unfortunately for my pocket, became one of many I own now. JG gave me one small cute bloom last season, survived our terrible TX Panhandle summer, winter , and spring late freeze , winds and other unmentioned factors without cane loss. It doubled in width and length this year, I am training her to climb an arbor with a bench. Lots of buds and flowers during the first flush, color as described, upwards facing, multi- petal, lovely fragrant flowers, smaller than I expected, but she’s still a baby. Healthy foliage. Not completely thornless. It does have fewer thorns but the ones she has …are real deal, I would have purchased it again in a heartbeat; however, I would have planted it elsewhere, not climbing the bench . It is ok though, I will train it so it doesn’t grab my bottom when I sit😃. Thank you, Heirloom for your plants .
