My By Appointment is blooming for the first time, tiny rose but pretty. Hope to see bigger roses next season.
This is a banded rose so it takes time.
Unfortunately, this rose should be named "Disappointment." I purchased it four years ago. Perhaps the name "By Appointment" fits only because it disappears and reappears with only one or two leaflets at ground level once or twice per Summer. It has never bloomed. In contrast, other nearby roses such as "Mary Magdalene" (my favorite), Graham Thomas, and Anne Harkness" are thriving. This is the first negative review I've written. My other Heirloom roses are performing very well.
I planted this rose along with 4 others, and it's the first one to bloom. A single beautiful bloom, so far. It is very lightly fragrant. I hope it becomes more fragrant as it grows. I planted it in early May so its been about 3 weeks from olanting to bloom. This is my first experience with roses from HR, and I'm looking forward to seeing these beautiful roses in bloom.
I bought this rose for the gorgeous apricot color and compact size, planted it in the end of June in Tennessee and it has done well. It is truly beautiful when in bloom, but I would warn it needs to be regularly treated with sulfur for blackspot in humid areas or else it will lose its leaves. It also does not do well if crowded by other plants. I think I prefer roses with more petals, as it opens very fast and the blooms are done opening in a day, but they last when open for quite a while. The quality of the shrub and all the shrubs I have bought from HR have been amazing. I bought 16 shrubs this season for a new cottage garden and every single one began growing well as soon as planted.
