If you want this rose you won’t regret it. West Virginia, mostly eastern sun, clay soil.
I have discovered Bordeaux has Rose Hips! Add that to the list of qualities. She grew to about 4 feet, no issues, lots of blooms and has been one of the only roses that produced blooms though summer in spite of heat and drought. I’m grabbing with Japanese beetles. She is probably the least affected of all my roses (22 of them, different varieties). She grows right next to my Generous Gardener which gets the most beetles and still hardly gets any beetles. I have other roses I’m constantly babying for bugs and fungus. Not this one. A late winter prune, some fertilizer, and she’s done for the year except when I water my nearby vegetable garden. Bordeaux is definitely a robust specimen. I don’t usually favor red roses, and her color is even more beautiful than the photographs here. A hue red for sure. Money well spent.
Blooming well even after I pulled it out of the ground and put it in a pot at the start of the season. Lovely red blooms. The blooms are long lasting on the bush and cut.
I purchased this for my dad who has a small outdoor balcony space (zone 6b) and loves roses. This is his first year with it and the plant is healthy and is a bloom machine! It’s in a pot with only a few hours of afternoon sun and it is thriving! The flowers are beautiful! Color is true to the pictures here. He is very happy with it and I’d recommend it to anyone with a small space and minimal sun.
I planted Citiscape the first of June,2023, and it has 3 open blooms and buds. It has grown nicely in height and foliage is nice and disease free. Roses are small at this point but nicely shaped and a good red color. The rose is fed with fish fertilizer and I really like it. I am at the edge of zone 5 but, I order zone 4 roses for winter hardiness. It remains to be seen how the roses will do through our tough winter weather. I really appreciate the own root roses. I have several from Heirloom and have not been disappointed.
