My blooms stayed true lavender and like the other reviewer said, it does fry a little in the sun but I don’t mind few brown edges because the bloom stays pretty nonetheless.
I thought Poseidon was pretty in the photos, but the roses are really quite stunning in person, both color and shape. It took a little over a month after planting for it to bloom. I expected a stronger scent but it's rather mild. Don't pass this one up.
I bought this rose own root about two years ago. I've never seen a more vigorous or disease resistant lavender rose. In two seasons this cultivar grew on its own roots into a full sized shrub and blooms non-stop no matter how hot and humid it gets in my USDA Zone 7a Maryland garden.
The black spot resistance of the glossy green foliage is unbelievable. Last year it didn't show any sign of the disease until August and that only happened because there were so many leaves on the interior canes air couldn't circulate. Removing the affected leaves and spraying with a fungicide (Mancozeb) made short work of the problem. The growth habit is urn shaped and is going to be tall. POSEIDON is one of the few roses that actually looks like a garden shrub.
The color is a cool lavender that is as "blue" as a rose is going to get. POSEIDON is a Floribunda so it blooms in clusters but if you disbud for one bud per stem the result is a enormous globular blossom on a long and strong stem (no nodding, thank goodness). The flowers also last a while in the vase so don't worry about the petals suddenly dropping overnight either. I guess the only real fault is the ragged petal tips, but to be honest the full old-fashioned flower form compensates nicely. The medium fragrance could be stronger, but at least it is consistent and does have a nice freshness. If you want powerfully scented, exhibition quality, blooms then get LAGERFELD instead, but for sheer beauty and garden utility, POSEIDON is my new favorite mauve colored rose. I'm buying another one as soon as it is back in stock.
I purchased this rose because I live on Poseidon Court. Planned to plant it right in front for all the neighborhood to enjoy, but realized it is a huge plant. It is in back, and is gorgeous. Have had no problems with black spot or anything else. Just have to prop it up as it gets top heavy. I think as it ages it will become more of a shrub. i hope so.
