Hustling to finishing planting here in zone 7 in N. NV, before fall weather starts. The husband just dumped the sticks that were this little future rose, into the sandy slope we are landscaping. Did a little soil amendment, and acidified the pH to a neutral 7, instead of just using our native alkaline sand-'soil'.
Dreaming took off a few days after being in our sandy slope, that has hot, dry, intense, high altitude desert sun exposure all day.........and took off like gangbusters! She sprouted four healthy canes full of healthy green leaves and has not stopped yet (3 weeks later). Due to some change in our desert climate, just in time for Labor Day, we got clobbered by high winds, clouds, and now rain for the past two days....we might make an inch, maybe? (big deal for us in the desert) And all our Heirloom roses, are seeming to enjoy this kind of weather, guess the clouds and rain/humidity remind them of home up in Oregon?
As for Dreaming, I can't wait to see how long she will stretch out on our sandy slope. I am hoping all the roses we plant on our sandy slope will help us with erosion as they stretch out and reach deep over time. Erosion has become a big problem here in our rural area, since we had over five feet of snow for four months last winter. If it wasn't for the big trees and other plants holding onto our sand, we would have slid downhill. So now I will have beautiful roses that also work for our erosion-saving efforts. What a treat!
I bought this single rose because I have a pollenator garden and I wanted to provide for the bee's. So many people have grass and shrubs for easy care. So I have a cottage garden to provide for birds, butterfly's and the bee's that help our farms. But this rose took off and bloomed within weeks and I love the simplicity of the flower. It is so prolific with blooms, it is like a bridal bouquet. The blooms are such a lovely shape with yellow centers, an ivory white base and tipped in bridesmaids pale pink. It looks delicate and feminine but it is hardy and no black spot which I really appreciate because I'm an organic gardener and don't spray.
Love this rose. So much fun. Blooms its head off. The small size of the blooms...Just incredible.
This is a small rambler so far . It is beautiful and started blooming right away! I have a shrub rose Ballerina which is blooming too. You cannot tell them apart!
