Bred in Northern Ireland in the 1970s, Precious Platinum has stood tall and stately throughout the decades as an amazing red Hybrid Tea. She is an upright-growing Hybrid Tea or Shrub Rose with outstanding foliage and striking, red blooms that cover the plant from top to bottom, something few roses accomplish. Her 5” blooms have 35+ petals, and she does well in beds, borders, or pots. We recommend planting Precious Platinum en masse as a hedge.

Wow

I haven't been a fan of red roses until the blooms on this rose. The blooms are large, striking with a light fragrance. Unfortunately the blooms don't do well in the cruel summer central Texas sun. However, I moved her to under the patio umbrella and it solved that problem.

Favorite New Red Hybrid Tea in my garden

It's not a new red hybrid tea at all but it is in my garden, and what a great example it is!
Rayford Clayton Reddell introduced this to me in 1987 and I had been wanting one ever since then, until I finally got it from Heirloom Roses this year (2023). They are only in their first year but are already over 3 feet tall, and right now in mid-October all 3 of my bushes are covered, top to bottom, in dozens of large, clear, deep pure red roses with a delicious, strong, sweet tea fragrance similar to that of 'New Dawn'..
The growth habit is somewhat angular, and they may need staking so they don't fall onto surrounding roses under the weight of all those flowers. They are healthy, vigorous, and disease-resistant. The form is excellent in the open bud stage, and the blooms are long-lasting and non-fading. A winner!!
